When the leaves start to turn and Indian summer transitions into true, honest-to-goodness fall, it can mean only one thing -- Halloween is right around the corner! Sure, it's fun to get dressed up and head out for candy, but the best part is settling down in front of the TV to watch your favorite scary movie. This year, why not see the actual locations? Just make sure you don't do it in the dark... boo! (Thanks to seeing-stars.com for some of the photos and some of the locations!)

Location: 6222 Painter Avenue, Whittier, CA
Scariness Factor: When Kale (played by Shaia LeBouf) finds himself under house arrest, he starts spying on his neighbors and witnesses one committing murder... or does he!?! This scary and suspenseful sort-of remake of Rear Window definitely sends chills up your spine, but it's all the more real when you see the home that Kale was confined to! (But please don't disturb the inhabitants!)

Location: Bergen Council Boy Scouts Camp Nobebosco, New Jersey
Scariness Factor: As if going to summer camp weren't terrifying enough - kids in the 1980s had to worry about an axe-wielding maniac in a hockey mask, too! Camp Crystal Lake, the scene of many a bloody crime in the first Friday the 13th, is actually a Boy Scout camp. No word on whether or not they have issues with a maniacal hockey-masked man, though.

Location: 18 Dock Street, Tom's River, New Jersey
Scariness Factor: Horror movies tend to be imaginative, but when they're based on a true story, look out. In the 1979 classic The Amityville Horror, George and Kathy Lutz (James Brolin and Margot Kidder) move themselves and their three children into a gorgeous home... that is haunted by demons that prompted the previous inhabitant to slaughter his family. Anyway - this isn't the actual Amityville house, just the one that was used in the movie.

Location: 4267 Roxbury Street, Simi Valley, CA
Scariness Factor: If the Amityville Horror wasn't enough to make you fear haunted houses, 1982's Poltergeist definitely drilled the point home! Who can forget the evil clown, the killer trees, and the closet that sucks little Carol Anne into another dimension? Despite the ending of the movie, the house still stands (and is full of people, so remember - don't bug them if you're going to go gawking!)

Scariness Factor: So let's recap: you don't want to buy a house, go to camp, go to prom, watch TV, go to the mall, or be placed under house arrest. Add babysitting to that list. As Jamie Lee Curtis found out in 1978's Halloween, it can be... murder! (Insert rimshot here.) he house that all the action happens at is actually in Hollywood. (Remember - people live there now, so don't bother them.)

Location: Manhattan Beach, CA
Scariness Factor: Sure, 1408 mostly takes place in a New York hotel room. But before John Cusack checks in to debunk the story of spirits possessing room 1408, he goes surfing? and almost drowns. A warning of things to come? Looks like! Keep your eyes peeled for the iconic Manhattan Beach pier, which you can see when Cusack gets waterlogged.

Location: 1428 Genessee Avenue, Hollywood, CA
Scariness Factor: In 1984, we were introduced to two very important film icons: Freddy Kruger and Johnny Depp! The former ensured teens everywhere wouldn't get a decent night's sleep, while the latter prompted many a wonderful dream... but Nightmare on Elm Street isn't about hot guys! You can see the house where Nancy Thompson fought Krueger, just down the street from the Halloween house!

Location: 1336 Harper Avenue, West Hollywood, CA
Scariness Factor: They say sequels are never as good as the original, and they might be right - but that doesn't negate the brutal slaying that kicks off the third and final installment of the Scream trilogy. In the beginning of the movie, Liev Schreiber - who played the formerly accused Cotton Weary - and his girlfriend played by Kelly Rutherford find themselves face to face with Ghostface... and find themselves meeting an untimely end. Yikes!
