Where the Boys Aren't
-
Unless you're a college student, chances are your idea of a perfect spring break doesn't involve crowds or lines or sold-out hotels. That's why the following destinations are worth considering for a "less crowded" spring getaway.
Up Next: Gulf Shores -
Gulf Shores, Alabama
11 luxury cabins were built by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in Gulf Shores, right along the Gulf of Mexico. Each cabin has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, two screened porches and a deck that overlooks Lake Shelby. Each also has a fishing pier, so bring your rods. Those who want to hit the beach will enjoy the new beach pavilion. The park also offers an 18-hole championship golf course and nature trails. For more information, visit Ala Park.
Up Next: Cape Cod -
Cape Cod, Massachusetts
If the beautiful beaches and numerous sporting opportunities of Cape Cod lure you this season, check into the family-friendly Ocean Edge Resort & Club. The ocean water won't be warm enough for swimming, but Ocean Edge has two indoor pools. There's also bicycle rentals, a fitness center, a golf course, a tennis complex and a spa. Organized events include tidal walks; croquet matches, spinning and swimming lessons, yoga and Pilates classes and activities planned for the kids.
Up Next: Iceland -
Iceland
Don't let the name fool you -- Iceland is a terrific destination any time of year and spring is no exception. Just because "ice" appears in its name doesn't mean it gets terribly cold plus, Iceland is famous for its hot springs. Iceland is also pleasantly undiscovered and uncrowded, with only 300,000 visitors per year. However, Reykjavik offers exciting events and rockin' nightlife.
Up Next: Tahiti -
Tahiti
Spring break for most of us still means warm weather and pristine beaches. You may have to travel a little further to Tahiti, but I promise it will be worth the effort to experience the natural beauty and South Pacific culture that is Tahiti. Here's a bit of trivia for you -- there are twice as many hotel rooms at the MGM Grand Las Vegas than in all of Tahiti (including Bora Bora, Moorea, and the Tuamotu atolls). How's that for uncrowded?
